Beschreibung der Insel Rhodos, verfaßt von dem berühmten venezianischen Kartographen Vincenzo Maria Coronelli (1650-1718).
Erste Ausgabe. Geplant als erster Band einer Reihe über die Inseln des Mittelmeeres, blieb dies der einzige. Die Erstausgabe unterscheidet sich von der zweiten durch das gravierte Titelblatt und den 30-seitigen Anhang, mit einer Mitgliedsliste der von Coronelli gegründeten ersten geographischen Gesellschaft der Welt, der Accademia cosmografica degli argonauti . - "As allways the question of the correct number of plates in any work by Coronelli is a vexing one. By comparing copies of the first and second editions we conclude that a possible 21 plates could be present (as opposed to the 20 suggested by Armao)" (Blackmer). Beim Vergleich mit der Blackmer-Auflistung sind in unserem Exemplar die Tafeln Caloiero ostro und Caloiero tramontana sowie die Faltkarte nicht vorhanden.
EINBAND: Lederband der Zeit mit Rückenvergoldung und rotem Rückenschild. 17 : 11 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit gestochenem Frontispiz und Titel sowie 17 (13 gefalteten) Kupfertafeln (st. 19?). - KOLLATION: 4 Bll., 430 S., 16 Bll. - ZUSTAND: Ohne Faltkarte und 2 Tafeln. - 2 w. Vorblätter gelöst. Vord. Gelenk eingerissen, unterer Rücken mit Fehlstelle. Insgesamt innen sauberes Exemplar. - PROVENIENZ: Exlibris Otto Jahn (1813-1869). - Exlibris H. & W. Uellner.

First edition, volume I (all published), written by the famous Venetian cartographer Vincenzo Maria Coronelli (1650-1718). Planned as the first volume in a series about the islands of the Mediterranean, this remained the only one. With engr. frontispiece, engr. title and 17 (instead of 19?; 13 folded) copper plates. - Contemp. leather with gilt spine and red label. 17 : 11 cm. - When comparing with the Blackmer list, the plates "Caloiero ostro" and "Caloiero tramontana" and the folding map are missing in our copy. 2 white front pages detached. Front joint torn, lower spine with defective spot. Inside nice, clean copy.
