Die berühmte Algebra Christian Rudolffs erschien erstmals 1525, war sofort vergriffen und wurde zu einem der gesuchtesten mathematischen Werke des 16. Jahrhunderts. "Das erste, auf den von Grammateus gegebenen Grundlagen aufgebaute Lehrbuch der Algebra in Deutschland " (Müller). Stifel widerlegt in seiner Vorrede die Vorwürfe eines Plagiats von Beispielen aus den Wiener Bibliotheken, da in Rudolffs Schrift die Beweisführung seiner Lehrsätze fehlen würde und macht die Arbeit Rudolffs erstmals wieder allgemein verfügbar. - "The work is one of the most scholarly arithmetics and algebras that came out in Germany in the sixteenth century. It is divided into four books, the first being an arithmetic and giving not only the theory of the subject, but a considerable amount of practical work. The second book is on irrational numbers, a chapter which we now insert in algebra, and the third is on algebra itself .. This work did for Germany what Cardan's and Tartaglia's did for Italy. Lower edge of binding partly scraped, small damage on head of spine. Title with ownership entry of the Scots Monastery Regensburg, dated 1609. Fine and clean copy in a contemp. binding.
