Zweite lateinische Ausgabe , gegenüber der ersten von 1554 um mehr als 130 Illustrationen erweitert. - "The Latin commentaries are a revision and enlargement of the Italian Discorsi published originally with the 1544 edition of the five books of Mattioli's Italian translation Libri cinque della historia & materia medicinale and with the 1548 edition of the six books Il Dioscoride dell'eccellente dottor medico m. P. Andrea Mattioli " (Durling). - Schöne und frühe Ausgabe des bedeutenden Kräuterbuchs mit feinen und detailgetreuen Holzschnitten des Malers und Formschneiders Giorgio Liberale da Udine, der ein Schüler von Pellegrino da San Daniello war (vgl. Thieme/B. XXIII, 183). Die Illustrationen zeigen neben zahlr. Pflanzen auch verschiedene Tiere sowie Jagdszenen, bukolische Szenen, Schafschur, Bienenzucht u. a. - Ohne den (nicht illustrierten) Anhang mit der Apologia adversus Amathum Lusitanum (26 Bll.) - Einbandkanten stellenw. restauriert, Außengelenke tls. brüchig. Gutes, innen sehr sauberes Exemplar.

Second and richly enlarged Latin edition (first publ. 1554). With ca. 640 woodcuts in text and woodcut printer's device on title. 17th cent. calf with gilt spine (partly restored). - Lacking the unillustrated appendix (26 pp.) with the "Apologia adversus Amathum Lusitanum". - Outer joints somewhat torn. Well-preserved, inside clean copy.
