Weltkarte. - Schedel. Secunda etas mundi. Kolor. Holzschnitt auf dem Doppelblatt aus H. Schedel, Liber chronicarum , Nürnberg 1493. 31 : 43,5 cm.

Aus der lateinischen Ausgabe der großen Schedelschen Weltchronik. - Prachtvolle Karte der Alten Welt, umrahmt von zwölf Windköpfen und drei Darstellungen der Söhne Noahs Sem, Ham und Iaphet. Am linken Blattrand findet sich ein Bildleiste mit sieben kleinen Fabelwesen, auf der rechten Hälfte der Blattrückseite zwei weitere kolor. Bildleisten mit ingesamt 14 ähnlichen Darstellungen. - "What gives the map its present-day interest and attraction are the panels representing the outlandish creatures and beings that were thought to inhabit the further-most parts of the earth .. frightening and fanciful creatures of a world beyond." (Shirley) - Leicht fleckig, Mittelfalte mit kl. Einrissen und alt verstärkt. Mit einer kl. hs. Anmerkung zwischen Bildleiste und linkem Kartenrand, Kartenbild mit mehreren topogr. Hinweisen in roter Tinte, beides von alter Hand. Unter Passepartout und zwischen Glas gerahmt, nicht geöffnet.

Beautiful map of the old world, surrounded by 12 windheads and the three sons of Noah, in the left margin and on verso together three borders with 31 colored illustrations, showing a man with six arms, a woman with a fur, a centaur, a werewolf, a headless man, a one-legged-man and other fanciful creatures. - With few ms. annotations in black and red ink by an old hand. Only slightly stained, few small tears in centrefold rebacked with old paper. Matted, framed between two panels of glas, not examined outside the frame.
