Nordatlantik. - De Bry. Tabula nautica, qua repraesentantur orae maritimae meatus .. Anno 1612.

"The printed map records Hudson's belief that he had found the Pacific Ocean with "Mare Magnum". What at first glance looks like the western shore of Hudson Bay is in fact James Bay .. The misconception of James Bay and its two large bays at the southern end would persist for decades to come." (Burden S. 201) - Gering gebräunt, in den breiten Rändern stellenw. leicht fleckig, rechte obere Ecke mit wenigen Quetschfalten, oberer Rand links mit Knickspur.

Burden 165.

Rare map of the North Atlantic Ocean between the east coast of Canada, Greenland and parts of Scottland, depicting Iceland and the mythical island of "Frisland" (with the name clearly engraved in the middle of the island). A reduced but nearly identical version of Gerritsz' first edition 1612 from De Bry's "Petit voyages" (part X) which already appeared one year later. - Only slightly tanned with occasional staining in the wide margins, some slight printer's creases in the upper right corner, upper margin on the left hand with crease.
