Erste Ausgabe des ersten Bandes dieses vortrefflichen Pflanzenwerkes, eine der schönsten bildlichen Darstellungen von österreichischen Gräsern. "The finest pictorial representation of Austrian grasses, with plates by J. Ibmayer, this is very much in the 'Jacquin' Viennese style" (de Belder). - Host (1761-1834) war Leibarzt von Kaiser Franz I., auf seinen Vorschlag wurde 1793 am Belvedere ein botanischer Garten angelegt, den er bis zu seinem Tod leitete. - "A product of the golden age of Viennese botany, when Habsburg patronage attracted many botanists, and paid for lavish publication of their work.
