Richard Swineshead
Opus aureum calculationum. Mit Beiträgen von Stephan de Compiano, Johannes Jacobus de Feliciano und Jacobus Veronicus sowie Korrekturen von Johannes Baptista Tolentinas. Pavia, Franciscus Girardengus, 4. Januar 1498.

"The emphasis in the Liber calculationum is on logicomathematical techniques rather than on physical theory. What it provides are techniques for calculating the values of physical variables and their changes, or for solving problems or sophisms about physical changes. Thus, the order of the treatise is one of increasing complexity in the application of techniques than an order determined by categories of subject matter" (DSB XIII, 187).

Second edition of this rare masterpiece on mathematics. Opus magnum of Richard Swineshead, perhaps the greatest of the Oxford Calculators of Merton College. The work contains a series of treatises, which counts among the most influential works of mathematics and physics of the late Middle Ages. But also later scholars and scientist praised this book. Leibniz even had a copy of one of this treatises, and he described it as "profound and relevant". First published around 1477, there are only 2 incunabulum editions, a third mentioned by Hain has not been proven. 17th cent. vellum with ms. title on spine. 80 leaves. With some painted lombards by later hand. - 1 leaf slightly brownstained, lower blank margin of title carefully remargined, first text leaf with early stamp (erased).
