"An example of the degree of technical virtuosity reached by this time in lithography, giving plates brilliant in effect, the equivalent of modern four-coulor process work from photographs. It is very difficult to tell whether, or to what extent, the plates touched by hand; probably those showing the greatest range of colours ... were so treated, and no. 9 appears to have been touched with varnish ... with skilful modeling in the tints.
