Das Gesamtwerk erschien in 4 und im selben Jahr nochmals in 8 Bänden, wobei die Bde. IV-VIII aus den Architektur-Werken 'Grand Marot', 'Petit Marot', 'Livre d'architecture' von G. Boffrand u. a. bestehen (vgl. dazu ausführlich Millard S. 338f.). Mariette beabsichtigte, eine umfangreiche Übersicht über die französische Architektur von Marot bis ins 18. Jh. herauszugeben. "The work was surely conceived as an extension of the Grand and Petits Marots and was assembled ... to form a compendium of ecclesiastical and civil architecture in France ... The first three volumes ... include a number of individual plates ... Although the volumes were not published together, they can be seen as a group, and follow the original intent of Mariette closer than any of the remaining volumes. Volumes 1 and 2 consist of individual sheets comprising plans, elevations, and sections of many of the major buildings of France ... Volume 3 includes designs for contemporary interiors and furnishings, and is the complement to the first two volumes. It would become a major reference work for architects of the later eighteenth century." (Millard) - Enthalten sind 33 Tafeln aus Bd. I, 126 Tafeln aus Bd. II sowie 47 Tafeln aus Bd.
