Erste Ausgabe. - Das Ergebnis der gemeinsamen Reise der beiden Forscher gilt als die erste zusammenfassende archäologische und geologische Beschreibung von diesem Gebiet. "The first comprehensive description of this area . Forbes and Sprattt undertook this tour in 1842 when H. M. S. Beacon visited the coast of Lycia to remove antiquities discovered by Sir Charles Fellows. The travellers remained in Asia Minor while the ship returned to Malta for refitting, and they travelled into the interior where they discovered the site of Telmessus .. The plates are after both Spratt and Forbes" (Blackmer). - Papierbedingt schwach gebräunt, vord. Innengelenke angebrochen (dadurch 1 Lage etw. gelockert). First edition. With 9 lithogr. plates of views, 3 engr. plates (1 folding) of coins and inscriptions, 15 plans (3 folding) and a large folding map colored in sections. Orig. embossed cloth. - Slightly browned (due to paper), front inner joints torn (1 quire loosened). Binding slightly faded and rubbed, corners bumped. Edward Hutton and later Henry Myron Blackmer copy with their bookplate.
