Vollständige Reihe mit dem Hauptteil Natural history und dem Nachfolgewerk Gleanings in erster Ausgabe (die Gleanings mit englisch-französischem Paralleltext). "Though, in a sense two books, these are now considered as one and either must rank as imperfect without the other" (Fine Bird Books S. 93). - Die schönen altkolorierten Kupfertafeln mit den lebendig gestalteten Vogel- und Tierdarstellungen von Edwards, darunter zahlreiche Pagageien und Paradiesvögel, "were drawn and engraved on the copper plates direct from the natural objects they represent; many of them are colored from nature" (Anker S. 119). Keine der dargestellten Arten war in Großbritannien anzutreffen. - Die nicht kolor. Kupfertafel (in Natural history , Tl. II) zeigt das Porträt eines Samojeden.

EINBAND: Kalblederbände der Zeit mit goldgeprägten Eckfleurons und etw. Rückenvergoldung sowie 2 farbigen Rückenschildern. 30 : 24 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit koloriertem gestochenen Frontispiz, Kupferporträt, 2 gestochenen Titelvignetten und 363 altkolorierten Kupfertafeln (1 nicht koloriert). - ZUSTAND: Gleichmäßig leicht gebräunt. Kanten und Gelenke etw. berieben, Rückenschilder von Bd. II entfernt, Kapitale mit kl. Defekten, Rücken unten mit kl. Papierschildchen. - PROVENIENZ: Mit gestochenem Wappen-Exlibris (England 18./ 19. Jh.).

With col. engr. frontisp., 1 engr. portrait, 2 engr. title vignettes and 363 col. copperplates (1 black&white, depicting a Samoyed). Contemp. calf with gilt decoration and 2 labels on spine. - Evenly slightly tanned. Edges and joints rubbed, spines with small paper label to bottom, extremities of spine partly with small defects, the 2 labels of vol. II removed. - Engr. armorial bookplate (Engl. 18th/19th cent).(R)
