Fünfte Ausgabe von Augustinus' Gottesstaat mit den wertvollen Kommentaren der Dominikaner Thomas Waleys aus Oxford und Nicolaus Trivet aus London, ferner mit Beigabe von Sebastian Brant. Der schöne Holzschnitt zeigt Augustinus am Schreibpult, im unteren Teil Abel und Kain vor den Toren Zions und Babylons, die für das Reich Gottes und das des Teufels stehen. "Das erste fassbare und zugleich bedeutende Werk des Meisters des Haintz Narr" (Hieronymus I, 82). - Vereinz. gering fleckig oder schwach gebräunt, vereinz. etw. wasserrandig, erste Hälfte mit 3 kl. Wurmlöchern (Buchstabenverlust), Titel mit hs. Eintrag des 19. Jhs. und am Unterrand mit restauriertem Einriß (verso bis knapp in den Holzschnitt). Innengelenke gelockert, erste und letzte Lage am Falz verstärkt. Sonst gutes Exemplar aus den Sammlungen von James P. R. Lyell (Exlibris) und W. A. Foyle (goldgeprägtes Leder-Exlibris).

Gothic type, 2 columns, text partly surrounded by commentary. - Here and there minor staining or slight browning, few waterstains, first half with 3 small wormholes, title with 19th cent. inscription and restored tear at lower margin (touching the woodcut on verso). Inner joints cracking, first and last quire strengthened in the gutter. Else good copy from the collections of James P. R. Lyell and W. A. Foyle (gilt stamped bookplate on morocco).
