Illustrated by figures of the natural size. The descriptions by W. J. Hooker'. - Die erste Ausgabe (Bde. I-II des vorlieg. Ex.) enthielt 432 Kupfertafeln (davon hier 333), die zweite Ausgabe wurde laut Henrey auf 648, laut Nissen auf 702 Kupfer erweitert. De Belder schreibt zur zweiten Ausgabe: "This is virtually a new work, being a greatly enlarged edition of the Flora Londinensis ... The final two volumes are entirely new, with plates mostly from drawings by Hooker ... together with his own description." - Das bedeutende botanische Werk enthält nicht nur die Beschreibung der Flora von London und seiner Umgebung, sondern von der gesamten Flora Englands. "The book contains some of James Sowerby's first botanical illustrations. Other artists involved were Sydenham Edwards and W. Kilburn. The Flora Londinensis is much more comprehensive in scope than its title suggests for it embraces most of the English flora, as a result of which it should be properly regarded as the first colour-plate national flora of England." V (Bd.-Angabe sorgfältig hs. ersetzt). - Vereinz. leicht stockfleckig, wenige Tafeln schwach gebräunt. Einbde. beschädigt. - Gutes, sämtliche Bände umfassendes und in diesem Tafelumfang seltenes Exemplar des prachtvollen botanischen Werkes.2 vols. of the first edition (second issue) and vols. III-V (of 5) of the second edition, altogether 5 vols. in 4. - Engraved title vignette and 644 (of 702) coloured engraved plates. - Lacking 'Catalogue of certain plants...', 'General observations ...' and some of the indexes. Vol. III by mistake with title of vol. V (number of vol. replaced in writing). - Occasionally slightly foxed, few plates slightly browned. Bindings damaged. - Good copy with all volumes and an extensive set of plates.
