VdB 8.1. - Tooley, Africa S. 88. - Koeman 8600:3.1 - Aus der letzten französ. Ausgabe von Ortelius' Theatrum. Erster Zustand noch mit der Datierung, die Titelkartusche jedoch bereits mit den bei VdB erwähnten Plattenrissen. Verso französ. Text. - Schöne Gesamtkarte von Afrika mit großer kolor. Rollwerkkartusche, Seeungeheuern und Seeschlacht unten rechts. - "One of the cornerstones of any African map collection ... a handsome well balanced map, visually beautiful and finely engraved" (Tooley). - Leicht gebräunt und stellenw. leicht fleckig. Mittelfalte an beiden Seiten eingerissen und teilw. hinterlegt. Ein kl. Einriß oben, 1 minim. Wurmloch unten rechts in der Darstellung.
From the last French edition of the Theatrum. First state with date not yet removed from title cartouche, but with the cracks in plate mentioned by VdB for the second state. French text on verso. - Slightly browned and here and there slightly stained. Centrefold torn on both sides, partly backed. One small tear to upper margin, 1 minim. wormhole in right hand bottom of illustration.
