Zwei seltenere kleine Kräuterbücher des Arztes und Botanikers Rembert Dodoens (1517-1585), dem ersten der großen flämischen Kräuterbuchautoren.

Die zweite und dritte botanische Veröffentlichung von Dodoens, beide in erster Ausgabe. - "Contains only the illustrations (and very brief notes) taken from the first part of his Cruydeboeck , which was then prepared for publication. The rest of these illustrations were published in a companion volume in 1554, and called Posteriorum trium de Stirpium historia commentariorum imagines . These two small books were practical for those who could not afford the more elaborate Cruydeboeck " (Hunt).

EINBAND: Pergamentband der Zeit mit blindgepr. ornamentalem Mittelstück. 8vo. 16 : 12 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 2 Holzschnitt-Druckermarken auf Titeln, Holzschnitt-Porträt auf erstem Titel verso und sehr zahreichen botanischen Holzschnitten im Text. - KOLLATION: 24 Bll. (d. l. w.), 439 S., 4 Bll.; 14 Bll., 290 (st. 302) S. - ZUSTAND: Fehlen in II S. 291-302 des Appendix. Leicht gebräunt und fleckig, stellenw. wasserrandig (im letzten Drittel stärker), Vorsätze tlw. gelöst oder unvollständig, Titel von I gelöst und mit Randläsuren. Einbd. etwas fleckig. - PROVENIENZ: Privatsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Two herbals in 1 volume, both in first edition. The second and third botanical publication by Flemish physician and botanist Rembert Dodoens. With 2 woodcut printer's devices on titles, woodcut portrait of the author on verso of the first title and numerous botanical woodcut illustrations in text. Contemp. vellum. - Lacking in the second work pp. 291-302 of the appendix. Slightly tanned and stained, somewhat waterstained in places (strongrer towards last third), endpapers damaged and partly incomplete, first title detached and with marginal defects. Binding somewhat stained. - Private collection North-Rhine Westphalia.
